Spotlight Volunteer: Tammy Anderson

How long have you been a parent at Armatage?
Our family has attended Armatage for the last six years. I have two children: Megan, who is currently in fifth grade, and Emma who is in eighth grade at Anthony Middle School. This is a sad year for me, being it's my last.

What volunteer roles have you been involved in at Armatage and how did you get involved?
I have really enjoyed volunteering at Armatage and was grateful for the opportunity to serve. I have chaired the spirit wear and Track and Field committees, and been involved with Art Adventure, Kids on Broadway, Reading Partners, Teacher Appreciation day, Reading Night, the carnival, Pits & Alleys, the Loppet, and other classroom activities. One of my favorite volunteer opportunities is Reading Partners, or just reading with kids who need extra help. It's a great way to make a small impact in some child's life. I also have enjoyed chairing committees. It's a great way to get to know other parents and families at Armatage. When I did spirit wear I had the great opportunity to work at events like open house and the kindergarten Tears and Cheers, so I had the chance to meet lot of new families and kids.

Why do you volunteer and what have you gained from volunteering at Armatage?
I would definitely recommend volunteering. It not only benefits the school and the children, but it is personally rewarding and a great way to meet kids and parents, make friends, and keep abreast of what's going in your child's school and classroom.
