“When you see someone putting on his Big Boots, you can be pretty sure that an Adventure is going to happen.”

—Winnie the Pooh

Dear Armatage Families,

The adventure has begun and we are on it together. I hope the first day of Distance Learning was fabulous for you and your children. The teachers have worked in unimaginable ways to ensure that as your kids entered this phase of their learning with a fabulous experience. There are no words adequate to express my appreciation for everything everyone is doing to make this new form of teaching and learning work for the kids.

TECHNOLOGY

The district is working around the clock to disseminate iPad and laptops to students who do not have any form of technology in their homes. The priority  has been to get them to seniors in high school and families that have no computers.

Apparently, there have been attempts to deliver computers to families and no one answered the door when a district employee knocked. The district will continue to reach out to families based on the survey that was completed a few weeks ago, but this will take weeks to accomplish. If you have not received a device and indicated you needed one, you can email Julie.railsback@mpls.k12.mn.us and she will be happy to assist you. This week (April 6-10), packets will be delivered to those who do not have internet and do not have a device. In addition, kids retrieving packets will also receive school supplies and some physical education equipment.

Please know that no matter how your child is receiving their education, your child’s classroom teacher will support him/her in Distance Learning.

SITE COUNCIL

Our recent parent survey provided me with feedback that many of you would like opportunities for a stronger parent community here at Armatage. To that end, I have decided to re-establish our Armatage Site Council. The role of the Site Council is to act as an advisor to the principal on decisions (budget, policy, program priorities, etc.) and act as a communication link to our parent community (communicating information, gathering feedback from you, helping to advocate for your activities and learning opportunities important to you). Historically, our Site Council was rolled into PTA due to lack of interest and participation, but it is clear that times have changed and this resource can be beneficial.

With the approval of our PTA, I have selected our Site Council members.  See the soon to come Site Council Page on the Armatage website for more details.  Regular meetings will occur starting next month (pending Covid-19 considerations) all are welcome to attend. You can look forward to hearing directly from the site council before then.

I look forward to the value the Site Council will add to our Armatage community, and I look forward to your participation!

CONTACTING THE SCHOOL

If you have questions or need information not available to you on the school / or district website, please call the school at 612.668.3180 and leave a message. The messages will be routed to the appropriate person and a response will be given to you as quickly as possible.

LOTTERY PROCESS

Families who participated in the lottery process received notification of their placement last Friday. It was our hope to welcome our new friends to Armatage on May 1st, but due to COVID-19 we are postponing it. Right now, I have rescheduled it for Wednesday, May 20, but this is pending our return to school.

I spoke with some of the Site Council members this afternoon and we think it is important to find a way to make the new families feel welcome whether we return to school or not. We would love any thoughts you may have about how  we could do this from a distance if we do not return to school this spring. Please feel free to email me with your suggestions.

I hope you and your family are well. Please follow the Governors mandates regarding social distancing and self-care in hopes that we can end this pandemic. On behalf of the staff, I wish everyone good health, peace and patience as we move through this together. Your children are precious and we miss them so much!

“You will find peace not by trying to escape your problems, but by confronting them courageously. You will find peace not in denial, but in victory.”
