Prin Franks Letter - 1/14/21
Thursday, January 14, 2021 3:15 PM

Good afternoon Armatage families,

This is Joan Franks calling with a few updates.  First and foremost, I hope you are well and enjoying the first snowstorm of 2021.

First, just a reminder there is a PTA meeting this evening Thursday, January 14th at 6:30 p.m.  You can find the link to the meeting on the Armatage website.  I will be talking about the return to school option vs, the continuation of Distance Learning.  There will be time to ask specific questions that may not be addressed in my comments.

Next, there is some confusion regarding what the week of February 1st will look like for students.  There will be NO SCHOOL for student February 1st – 5th for our kindergarten through 5th grade students.  The teachers will be spending the week preparing for the return of students.  There will be no assignments on SeeSaw or Google, it is a week for the kids to just relax and have some fun!

Next, the students will be returning to school the week of February 8th.  However, the schedule is scaffolded as follows:

Kindergarten students will begin Monday February 8th.

1st – 2nd will return on Wednesday, February 10th

3rd – 5th grade will return on Monday, February 22nd

Please note that it is critical that you go to the district website and fill out your decision for Distance Learning or In-person teaching.  If you do not fill out an electronic response, the district will assume your children are returning and will move forward with getting them enrolled into the building.

Finally, there have been many calls and emails asking whether or students will have their same teacher.  Unfortunately, I can not give a definitive answer at this point as there are many mitigating factors that will determine where students are placed.  It is my goal to keep students with their current teacher, but again we have to wait and see how many students return to the building vs. how many continue with Distance Learning.  In the end, I have to ensure balanced classrooms.  Please know your children are my number one priority and I will do everything I can to ensure as much continuity and consistency as possible.

As Arnold Bennett once said, “Any change, even change for the better, is always accompanied by discomforts.”  Have a great afternoon and I look forward to seeing you at the PTA meeting tonight.

Joan Franks, Principal
