Happy New Year!!!

Congratulations to the 4th and 5th grade students in room 115 (Christian Houdek’s class) and room 117 (Staci Owens’ class) who sang and played jingle bells in our song “Winter Wonderland” for the December Student of the Month program. Thank you for a job extremely well done! ☺

Our next Student of the Month program will be Friday January 24th. We are working on some special surprises for that program and will be singing “Let It Snow”.  All 4th and 5th grade classes are eligible to be chosen to sing for the performance… good luck!

Grades Pre-K and K  Students enjoyed our winter festivities in music class, learning winter songs and songs from different countries and cultures. Every student spun the dreydls as we sang “My Dreydl”. We played jingle bells, maracas, and rhythm sticks to accompany our songs. We also earned special appearances from Rappin’ Santa, the Sing-a-ma-jig, the yodeling pickle, and Slax the saxophone playing snowman.

Now that we have returned from winter break, students will be getting into performance order and going to the Little Theater to practice entering and exiting the stage, and getting on and off of the risers.

Grades 1 and 2  Students have continued working on the music room expectations, their learning targets, and “perfecting” the classroom procedures. Students continue to do well with their music room jobs of pointer, overhead, calling off song sheets, and bookkeepers. This teaches them to have classroom responsibilities and ownership, and helps our classroom to run smoothly.

Classes will be getting into performance order and begin preparing to perform on stage. We will be visiting the Little Theater and learning to get on and off the risers, and exhibit stage presence and voice projection.

Grade 3  Third graders continue to work on music class expectations, routines, and jobs. One of our learning targets is “I can remember and perform my music room job”… not just the job they signed up for, but their job as individuals, team members, and classmates, each time they come to class. This creates a positive, supportive, efficient, and high functioning classroom environment.

Our newest songs are “Lollipop”, “The Purple People Eater”, “Interplanet Janet” and “Hi! Ho! The Rattlin’ Bog”. Over winter break Mrs. Franks contacted me and asked if we could sing “The Rainbow Connection” for the spring music program again this year. Since this is a song the students learned last year, we will us it this year as a tool to teach the audition process and it will be one of the songs that will feature soloists in our Spring Music Program. Auditions will take place after spring break. All students are eligible to audition.

Grades 4 and 5  As with 3rd grade, classes continue to work on music class expectations, routines, and jobs. One of our learning targets is “I can remember and perform my music room job”… not just the job they signed up for, but their job as individuals, team members, and classmates, each time they come to class. This creates a positive, supportive, efficient, and high functioning classroom environment.

Our newest upcoming song is “You’ve Got A Friend”, and we will be performing this in our May Spring Music Program. Our goal is for all students to learn the bongo accompaniment, and in the spring we will have bongo auditions (optional) to select a group to play the instruments in the Spring Music Program.

Our Spring Music Programs are on Thursday May 7th 2020:

Grades 3, 4, and 5  at 8:30 a.m.

Grades Pre K, K, 1, and 2 at  12:30 p.m.

Both programs are held in the Lower Level Gymnasium

Have a great week!
