Julie Scherber

Spotlight Volunteer: Julie Scherber

How long have you been a parent at Armatage?
Seven years. My son Charlie is a seventh grader at Anthony—he went all six years at Armatage. My daughter Josie is a fourth grader. I didn't volunteer regularly until Josie entered kindergarten.

What volunteer roles have you been involved in at Armatage and how did you get involved?
I’ve been the Green Team lead, working with teachers, parents, and students to complete the front school gardens and the courtyard gardens. As the plant sale lead, I started a school plant sale to ensure adequate funding for the courtyard gardens. In its fifth year, the plant sale is a great community-building and fundraising activity for the school. I love gardening and projects, so both were good fits.

What have you gained from volunteering at Armatage?
I’ve learned much about grant writing, project-based work, and how to work with children in an outdoor setting.
