Welcome to Room 107!
Hello! My name is Jane Campbell and I have taught in the Minneapolis Public Schools since 1991. I have been at Armatage since 2002. I feel fortunate to teach at a school with such a great and supportive community. I received my undergraduate degree at University of Wisconsin River Falls, my master's degree from Mankato State. In the past, I have coached gymnastics both at private clubs and at Washburn High School.
Teaching Philosophy
Favorite thing about classroom teaching
I love teaching lots of different things in Kindergarten. The science units are fun and watching kids grasp math concepts is also fun. But my favorite thing to foster in children is a love of reading; how to use their knowledge of letter sounds and develop reading strategies to build their confidence in reading. It is extremely gratifying to watch a child read a new word for the first time!!Favorite books
Lots of favorite books. Some classics and some newer titles. Some favorites from my younger years: Nancy Drew and Charlotte's Web. Some other favorites: Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, Jabari Jumps, Rainbow Fish, Elmer, Ricky the Rock that Couldn't Roll, Pete the Cat, and Piggy & Gerald books. I love to read to kids and hope to foster a love of reading in my students!A little about me
In my free time I like to spend time with my family: my husband Doug and my two boys. My boys are all grown now - Dalton lives in Chicago and Owen will soon graduate from St. John's University. They both attended public school in Bloomington. A fun fact, they both attended Kindergarten at Armatage! Whenever we get a chance, we like to travel together.
