Lexia Core5 and Dreambox Expectations - 60 Minutes / Week For Each Application
Thursday, October 22, 2020 9:00 AM

Lexia Core5 and Dreambox are educational applications that support student progress in reading (Lexia) and math (Dreambox). These programs provide teachers with important diagnostic information that will help them to support the individual needs of students and differentiate their instruction.  In order to gather accurate data using these programs, consistency of usage is very important.

Students are expected to work on Lexia for 60 minutes each week as a part of their literacy block, and on Dreambox for 60 minutes each week during their math block. Teachers have taught their students how to use these programs and have explained the expectations for their use.  Please reinforce the importance of these programs by encouraging them to spend time on using these programs daily.  If you have any questions surrounding Lexia and Dreambox, please feel free to reach out to your classroom teacher.

URGENT: Family Survey On Learning Model (DL, Hybrid, In-Person)
Tuesday, October 13, 2020 7:10 AM

The following survey was sent out yesterday to families asking if they’d prefer: full-time, in-person learning; a combination of in-person learning and distance learning (hybrid); or full-time distance learning.  The survey is for planning purposes and will help MPS better understand what needs to be in place and available for the number of students who will likely prefer to be back in the classroom.  Please complete this as soon as possible.  This survey is due by Monday, October 19.

IMPORTANT: Staff Re-adjustment Day
Friday, October 9, 2020 7:40 AM

Each year at this time, the district evaluates the number of students assigned to a school vs. those who actually showed up.  Based on school numbers, the district makes adjustments in staffing of each building.  Traditionally, Armatage has always met the target and no changes were necessary.  Unfortunately, this year with Covid – 19 combined with some families planning on changes that will take place with the CDD, we have lost 97 students.  I have been in frequent communication with Brian Zambreno, Associate Superintendent regarding the impact on Armatage.  Yesterday, I received a call from him that stated we will be losing one teaching position effective October 16th

Jasper Jonson, Assistant Principal and I have been evaluating the numbers of students in each grade level and classroom and have put together a plan that will be rolled out to the staff today.  Our goal is to be as least disruptive to classrooms as possible.  In the end, we are closing one classroom and redistributing the students to other similar classrooms.  The families being impacted by this change will be notified this evening with a letter from their child’s teacher.

We are grateful we will only lose one teaching position with such a significant decrease in enrollment.  Our hope is that once our building re-opens to students, families will choose to reapply to Armatage Montessori School through the Student Placement Office and we will rebuild our enrollment for the 2021 – 2022 school year.

Thank you for your support of Armatage Montessori School and staff during this extremely challenging year.   The notes of encouragement from parents have been greatly appreciated.  If you have any questions, please contact me at your convenience.

URGENT: Application for Educational Benefits
Wednesday, October 7, 2020 11:00 AM

ALL students at Armatage must submit an Application for Educational Benefits.  The completion of these forms are important in that nearly $100 million is generated each year for MPS through this information.  Valuable staff time will be spent calling all families who have not submitted an application by the due date of October 22.

Parents may submit the application in one of three ways:

  1.  Online (preferred method) –  Instructions, if needed, may be found at
  2. Download the SchoolCafé application for mobile phones, and complete the Application for Educational Benefits there.
  3. Request a paper copy from the Armatage main office:  612-668-3180.
  4. Allow a staff member to complete the form with you over the phone.

Thank you for your immediate attention to this request.  If you have further questions, you may call the Armatage School Social Worker, Julie Railsback, at Google Voice phone 651-571-0535 ( or Principal Joan Franks at 612-668-3180.
