Introduction from our new Principal
Dear Armatage Families,
I am honored and excited to be the new principal at Armatage Community School.
I recognize the excellent Armatage reputation, and I hope to lead in a way that upholds that reputation.
For the past 15 years I have been in Bloomington Public Schools. I started my career as a 4th grade teacher at Oak Grove Elementary. While there I trained in STEM and Responsive Classroom practices, worked closely with the center based autism program, and was the curriculum and technology lead. I know what best practices in the classroom look like. I adored being in the classroom and will always treasure those years.
I earned my masters degree and principal license from the University of Saint Mary’s, Twin Cities campus. Concurrently, I accepted the Dean of Students position at Valley View Elementary. For two years I cut my teeth as a school administrator leading our Student Support Center, primarily working to meet the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of our students.
The past six years I was the assistant principal at Valley View Elementary and worked hard to become an effective instructional leader. I sat on our district literacy leadership cohort, math leadership cohort, cultural proficiency leadership and implementation team, and was trained in literacy classroom visits. I used those experiences to bring professional development to our staff. Most of all, I built great relationships with staff, students, and families.
I live with my wife Jodi and son Bennett in the Diamond Lake neighborhood. We love living in Minneapolis. Bennett will go to kindergarten at Windom Elementary School in the fall of 2022, and fortunately I will be on the same school schedule as my son. It makes me proud to work in the same district where he will go to school.
I realize some families receiving this letter are incumbent Armatage families, and some will be joining us from other school communities. I am happy your children will be at Armatage! Change is hard, but I believe we have an exciting opportunity to recreate our Armatage community. My hope is that you will share in my enthusiasm!
