Welcome to the Armatage Library

The Library

The Library supports Literacy.  We encourage all reading.  Please know that all students at Armatage are independent users of the Library.  All students (1-5) may check out books every day if they wish.  Students are trained in the checkout process in the fall.  Most students achieve full independence with the checkout system by October.  Kindergarten will begin this process in the fall.

21st Century Skills

We are our not as antiquated as our stereotype.  We support all 21st Century Skills for all students.  Please learn more at 21st Century Skills.

Read Aloud

Did you know that Reading Aloud to your children is one of the most powerful things you can do?  Check out the information from RIF or the Read Aloud Handbook.

Homework

Research Project due in two days?  Check out these free “Student Learning Resources” provided by Minneapolis Public Schools and The State of Minnesota.  Be aware you may need a password to use these at home.  Have your child check with the Librarian for the password.

Dewey Decimal

Yes, the Armatage Library does use the Melvil Dewey Decimal System, as does the Hennepin County Libraries. Learn it once and your skills will wow others when you enter the library.  Believe it or not he was a revolutionary figure in library history.  Learn more about Melvil Dewey.

Lost or Damaged Books

Students are regularly informed if their book is overdue. All students can usually articulate to the Library that their book is lost or damaged.  If this is the case we request that you help your child pay for the book. The cost will be on the overdue statement that is sent home with your student.  We do appreciate this, as the Armatage Library uses this money to replace and purchase new books for the library.

Give

Please help the Armatage Library by donating money directly to the Library. All proceeds will be used to keep the collection in the 21st Century. The money helps us to insure that the entire collection provides a full range of choices for all patrons.  Contact the office at 612-668-3180 to learn how to donate to the library.

Volunteer

We always need volunteers.  Since our independent book check out was implemented, our circulation has increased tremendously.  We have the 2nd highest circulation in the district. We are looking for people to shelve books or become shelf readers.  Contact faith.wisland@mpls.k12.mn.us if you are interested in volunteering or go directly to the PTA’s website to fill out a Volunteer Form.

We are please to be a part of the Armatage Community.  We belive in the "Open Library" a philosophy supported by the American Library Association.  We would also like to encourage MPS to move toward a "Flexible Schdule" to strenghten the learning process for our 21st Century Learners. To learn more about the state of America's Libraries please feel free to learn more from the ALA's 2012 report and Metronet's* Excutive Summary of the School Library Media Center Census 2004.  *Metronet is one of seven state-funded multitype library networks created by the Minnesota Legislature in 1979.
