Welcome to Room 107!
My name is Jane Campbell and I have taught in the Minneapolis Public Schools since 1991. I have been at Armatage since 2002. I have spent most of my teaching career teaching Kindergarten and I have always worked in a Montessori school. I received my undergraduate degree at University of Wisconsin River Falls, my master's degree from Mankato State and my Montessori Certification from St. Catherine’s. In the past, I have coached Gymnastics both at private clubs and at Washburn High School.
Kindergarten is a big developmental year. It is not just about learning abc's and 123's but it is also about learning how to get along with other children, how to resolve conflicts, how to take turns and how to show empathy to others. I believe if your child learns how to be part of a group, your child will learn and grow academically. I feel strongly that by working closely with parents, we can help your child have an amazing kindergarten experience!!
My philosophy is: every child can learn if they feel safe and they feel part of a caring community. Recognizing and celebrating individual and group successes helps build a community feel to our classroom. Recognizing individual successes is easy to do in a Montessori classroom since children are working on individual goals as well as classroom goals. Children use the Montessori materials to master their academic goals.
I love teaching lots of different things in Kindergarten. The science units are fun and watching kids grasp math concepts is also fun. But my favorite thing to teach to children is: how to use Reading Strategies to build their confidence in reading. It is extremely gratifying to watch a child use a reading strategy they have learned to read a new word for the first time!!
A little about me
In my free time I like to spend time with my family: my husband Doug and my 2 boys, Dalton and Owen. Dalton is in high school and Owen is in Middle school. They both attend school in Bloomington. A fun fact, they both attended Kindergarten at Armatage and I attribute that experience to their successful school career! I like to watch Dalton perform in plays and Owen play his many sports. I also enjoy being active like running.
