Welcome to Room 111!

I have been a teacher for 17 years, and have been at Armatage since 2011. I have a B.A. in Child Psychology, as well as Elementary Education Training and Licensure from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I also completed Montessori Training at St. Catherine University. I've taught elementary grades 1-6. I have also been a resource teacher for gifted and talented students. I've had lots of volunteer experience, serving young children.

Teaching Philosophy

Teachers play a critical role in the development of children. We are responsible for providing students with all the necessary academic lessons and experiences. Also, the way we interact with children, minute by minute, has a strong influence on how they feel about themselves and how they participate in a community. Montessori education provides a wonderful and enriched environment. Giving students the opportunity to encounter concepts through specially-designed, hands-on materials within the classroom is key. Encouraging independence and offering choices are reflections of Montessori's method and philosophy.

Spotlight Unit

I love teaching students about their unique nature. At the start of each year, we study the brain and how valuable it is. We learn about how it functions, caring for it, using it and exercising it. The idea that there has never been (and never will be) anyone exactly like them, is brought home. Recognizing the amazing potential they have, to share their unique ideas with the world is important. It's exciting to think of the contributions they'll make, using those brains!

A little about myself

My husband and I have two daughters (Leyla 14 and Camille 9) and a son (Eli 4). Laughing and joking around is our favorite pass-time. We love soccer. We try to get away together, as often as possible, to a beach/ocean destination (usually Mexico).

Armatage is a great place to teach!
