Strong Academics Supported by Staff, Students and Families:
Armatage Montessori School has a long tradition of boasting some of the top test scores in the district and continues to make all of the AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) goals as required by the State of Minnesota. For 2012, Armatage achieved the highest score (at 96.57%) of any elementary school in the state in the state MMR accountability report. Armatage has consistently scored “Above Target” in both math and reading. We are very proud of the fact that we recently scored 5 stars in Reading, and 4 stars an Math on our Minnesota Department of Education "report card." Our staff, students and parents are committed to excellence in education and take seriously all of the attributes necessary to create an environment condusive to learning. We believe a positive environment, respect and hard work are key ingredients to creating classrooms focused on curriculum essential to supporting high academic achievement of all students. Each year students are assessed using a variety of tests to measure their growth, areas of strength and areas for development. The NALTs (Northwest Achievement Levels Test), MCAs (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment), CBMs (Curriculum Based Measures) and Oral Reading Assessments are some of the tests used to provide information. Attendance is another important factor when looking at student achievement. We are pleased to note that our attendance improved from the previous year—the majority of our students are attending school 95% of the time.

Great Facilities
Although Armatage was built in the 1950s, our students are fortunate to have access to great facilities—many of them new and updated. All classrooms are on one level in hallways that draw natural lighting on both sides. Many rooms look out on the school's courtyard prairie which was planted in the year 2000. Following are some of the building highlights:

The level of parental involvement and volunteerism is outstanding...and the results are clear—the kids feel that their school experience is naturally part of a larger, caring community. As a family, we are happy with the cultural diversity... The school staff and many families we've met recognize the importance of acknowleging and expressing interest in other cultures ... a great stepping stone for the students on the road to becoming Citizens of the World! The “Responsive Classroom” activities create a sense of community in the individual classrooms and the school as a whole. The quality of teaching and the academic expectations are excellent. The K-5 model at an intimate school such as Armatage has been great for my kids...my daughter was more than ready for the new challenges made possible only by the move to a middle school environment in 6th grade. After having experienced private school Montessori education for my two children in California, I was skeptical about what a public school could offer. I am extremely pleased with the quality of the Montessori education at Armatage. I have been in education for 25 years and have never worked with such an incredibly dedicated and hard working staff. You walk into Armatage and know immediately that it is an environment where younger children can learn and grow. Armatage is designed for our first grade daughter's learning and development needs. She feels comfortable and confident—so do we.
